I was making my Shoo-Fly Blocks for Blocks 2 & 3 for my “Vignette Mystery Quilt”, and thought I would show you another of my favourite gadgets. Have I told you I love gadgets? *grin*
Make your squares.
You can do any size. You’ll need one of each fabric choice.
This is a Quick Quarter Rule. It is such a handy gadget. I love using it.
Lay one square of fabric on top of the other – right sides together.
Lay the Quick Quarter Rule as shown. ![]()
I use a sandpaper board to help keep the fabric from slippng.
Take your favourite marking pen/pencil and draw a line along each side of the ruler. This should be a non-permanent marker.
This is how it looks after you remove the ruler. ![]()
Take your two squares to the sewing machine and sew along the two outside solid lines.
I don’t reverse stitch, and I also chain stitch if I have a number of pairs ready to go.
Now go back to your cutting mat and cut between the stitching.
You can’t see my stitching here as I’ve used a cream thread. You can use the solid lines as a guide also.
After you cut the fabric, you will have two “new” squares!
Press the seams open.
So here are your two little half-square triangles. *grin* ![]()
I hope you liked my little tut and that it was helpful. If you have any questions or feedback, please do let me know. *grin*
Thanks for dropping by.
Happy Sewing!

Congratulations to Mhairi who has won my recent give-away of a Pookie pattern from Melly & Me!
Thanks Mhairi and everyone for your wonderful comments. *grin* You made me smile!
If you do like Pookie and would like to make him, here’s his link in the Shop.
Have a wonderful day Everyone!
PS: Word is …. Vignette No 8 will be about two weeks!
Hi Everyone! Surprise!! I’m posting a Monday’s Show and Tell. *grin*
It’s been ages, hasn’t it? Life is back to normal and my back is getting there, too. What a drama it’s all been. Don’t want to go through that again. I’m going to the gym for Personal Training…which I just love, and seeing the Chiropractor, too. Everything’s coming good. *grin*
So for Show and Tell today I have a “little black purse” I made to take with me on the cruise. I even used it! It’s a pattern from Melly & Me called, Out With The Girls. This is one of those patterns that you just don’t know how wonderful it is until you make it up. It’s just the right size to take to a formal event, like the wedding we went to last weekend. Doesn’t take up too much room at the table. There is a strap for it, but I didn’t put it on. I was very happy with how it turned out, and it will be one of my favourites. *grin*
Next time for Monday’s Show and Tell, I have a bag I made from Janelle’s book, Pieces of Me, to show you. I just love my bags!
So, if you’re out there…..do you have something to share today? I’d love to see what you’ve been up to.
Until next time….Happy Sewing!
